the look but not really the act)

Black is a skin color/race, it has nothing to do about how you act or dress.

Why, certainly, Mr. Fabik - be glad to.

With about any racial group there are certain traits that go with the race's group. These can be genetic or
learned through family beliefs or traditions. For example, people of certain races are often naturally better athletes
than those of another racial grouping. This would be a genetic thing.

But, I can be of one race and, for whatever reason, be "inspired" by the way members of another race look, speak or act. I learn to copy them - be in/with their "group."I can carry my "act" to whatever level I want (e.g. only dress wigger), but don't have to copy it all.

So I put on the act. But that doesn't make me a better athlete.

Yeah, it's true that I heard black athletes are better at running, and worse at swimming. That should be a genetic thing.
I'm white and I suck at running AND swimming. So this doesn't mean everything / it only affect high degree athletes.

I guess the point of this thread is that a black is more likely to sag than a white ? Because yeah I observed that - I didn't make any statistics or anything but this might be true. I wouldn't call sagging "dressing up as black" though. It would be if at least 70% of blacks were always sagging which obviously isn't the case. I don't think sagging has anything to do with African culture or whatever (well I don't think... maybe I'm totally wrong).

@Fabik: Personally i tend to agree with you, you made some good points there. But we shouldn't forget that that's our European point of view - As a matter of fact there is something like a "black" subculture in the US, which we, due to several historical reasons, don't have over here. And I'd dare to say that things such as thug-like behaviour and others are to a certain extent part of it.
It may be politically incorrect to generalize it, but on the other hand it's usefull to describe a certain type of behaviour which is typical for certain members of this culture.

Let me give you an excample: I know you are Swiss - in the german-speaking parts of Switzerland people use a dialect which sounds quite funny to us Austrians (and can barely be understood by the Germans^^). But everybody knows that there are areas in Switzerland where other languages are spoken. So if I say "Swiss people are speaking a funny dialect", does that necessarily mean that everybody in Switzerland speaks this dialect? I wouldn't say so....

In this context "Swiss" doesn't refer to somebody's personality, but simply to the place where he is living, in this particular case the german-speaking parts of Switzerland. Only a certain group of people share a certain thing, but due to simplification you use the general term "Swiss".
"Black" itselfe doesn't refer to somebody's personality, but simply to skin-colour. In our context here, talking about "acting black" doesn't mean that all people of african origin act like that, i refers to a certain group of them, which shares a behaviour described by the word "thug".
