  1. idk, I think the upgrades are like movie sequels. Sure there is something new here and some things get tweaked, but just a better resolution and a better cam? doesn't seem like enuff to go out and buy a new one.

Anyhow, who is going to carry their i pad around just to take pix? You would use your cam as it would often be superior.

My opinion is if you have ipad1 its good enuff. Save your tech dollars for something really upgraded or innovative.

I would agree with Cwolf, with the death of Jobs I would say the company will get into trouble in the next few years once the iphone and ipad run their course......If you have Apple stock, you might want to be thinking of selling it soon....they will be running into legacy issues

Will be interesting to see what happens with the market, shares went over 600 for the first time over the last few days.

"just a better resolution", thing is. The device is a 9.7" screen.... the screen is the device! I have to say it looks fantastic. I liked my iPad 1 a lot, I like my iPad 3 even more. Even better I got £70 refunded as a goodwill gesture :D So it only cost me £410 (650 USD) instead of £480 (760 USD) for the 32GB model.

Still pay a lot more than the Americans :(

  2. I can see why people would use Facetime for sure. Most people I know with iPhones/pads I have no need to facetime with.

My aunt does have a iPad 2 though and I set facetime up for her. We rarely see her so possibly could use it to speak to her once in a while.

Anyway.. had a fun morning on the phone to my bank because my account and online banking got locked, probably because of all these payments!

  3. I'm not an Apple fanboy but I do love my iPhone 4S, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S, the iPhone is so much better. I had a ipad 1 which I sold a couple of weeks ago in prep for the iPad 3.

    The Order:

Order night: Servers were getting hammered, I got up to the accessories page then it crashed, on my iPhone using the app I typed in my password at the end of the process and it crashed. Just before I went to sleep (5 hours after the store came back online for the first time) I checked my iPhone app. It was online, I wasn't wasting anytime and ordered a 16GB Wi-FI only. Earlier in the night I had been thinking about a 32GB so I said screw it and tried to buy one.. The app wasn't working. Remoted into my PC and tried on there, managed to get one. Then I thought, hold on I have access to the education store so I went and bought another 32GB for £15 less, not much but its money saved for a screen protector.

In the morning I checked my Apple orders, I had 3 orders: 16GB, 32GB, 32GB (edu store)

I now checked my bank I had 5 payments out, The 16GB, 3* 32GB's and then the other 32GB from the edu store. So invoiced for 3, charge for 5. Because I had 5 payments go out, I currently don't even have enough money to buy a smart case... It's good I'm only 17 and don't have things which need paying etc.

Bank can't do anything currently, I rang Apple who said they will look into it, rang the next day and he said I got to wait a few working days for the money to go back in to my account. Hopefuly he understands that a have 2 rogue payments ontop of the 16GB and 32GB which I cancelled. I also got told by someone on the Apple online chat to complain via email.

Took around 24 hours for every iPad to go out of stock on the pre-order system so that they will ship in 2-3 weeks. Took a while to sell out, wonder if they had a lot of stock or people just gave up.

    The Product

As mentioned I had the iPad 1. Starting off with the dimensions, the iPad 1: 0.5" thick, iPad 2: 0.34", iPad 3: 0.37". So for me it will be thiner, the different is there but come on it's tiny.

Weight: iPad 1: 680g, iPad 2: 601g, iPad 3: 652g. It added a bit of weight back on, I wouldn't say the iPad 1 was heavy, I know the iPad 2 felt a lot lighter, I think the 3 is still OK.

It weighs more because of the battery, they had to 'double' the capacity of it because of the retina display. If they kept the old battery the device would only last for 6 hours, not 10. (Can't be bothered to try and find the source.) They had to make the battery bigger, I think I heard someone say they also made the mobo thinner. A bit of thickness and weight vs battery. Battery is more important, I do have a feeling if Jobs was still alive he wouldn't have been happy.. But he's dead and the company has to move on.

The retina display sounds amazing on paper, 4 times the amount of pixels. I can't say I'm that impressed though from images on the Apple website such as the one where you are 'zoomed into' a book. Will be interesting to see how noticeable the difference is in person. I'm sure though only a year ago people were saying a device of that size with that resolution would cost 1000's.

The usual process upgrade and graphics upgrade, it's needed I presume for the screen. Apple aren't all amount specs and numbers, heck they don't even give details out like Samsung do "1.2GHZ something CPU".

The camera, well you look like a idiot if your taking photos with the back camera...I don't know anybody who uses facetime or skype calling (I'm sure some people do). The argument is though, if they wanted to improve a camera make it the facetime one. It's VGA is terrible. As the iPad now should have a half decent camera, who knows I might take the occasional inside photo... But in my pocket I have my iPhone 4S which has a great camera. --- Also why did they call it a iSight camera :S?

Wonder how much RAM it has, it's gone from 256 to 512, so now 1GB? That should be noticeable for me.

I am very looking forward to having mine delivered, I've missed using one. It got shipped last night though obviously delivered on the 16th still.

Sure.. there could be improvements such as a better front camera, and people complain about no HDMI etc (which I don't think Apple will ever do, same with SD cards). But the previous version was very good, this is just better. The biggest improvement being the display though and hopefuly it is that good. Hardware wise there is nothing more I want, even the design is nice (probably redesigned for the 4th gen). Software wise, I like iOS, its easy to use and works well. But I think it needs some change, a lot of those are basic things... I jailbreak my iPhone to get these few things.

((Damn that was a long post!!!))

  4. Why is everyone so anti-smoking? Yes, it's bad but some of us started early in life and can't just quit. "Stomping" fags out is not easy as you may think. I have a nasty cold so i'm kinda cranky 2day ;-( sorry.

Everyone can quit. I don't beleive that anyone can't. My uncle had smoked for like 60 years, addicted, not sure how many per day but was a lot. He went to the hospital one day (not sure about details) from that visit, he stopped smoking for good.

My dad, smoked for 35 years (ish), had a heart attack in his mid 50s and stopped right away. Both cases though are medical.

    Willpower!!

Why are so anti-smoking. Well as said, that person stinks, the room stinks, etc etc

  5. Sim only contracts are cheap. It's using a provider called giffgaff. They use the O2 network, which is pretty much best for coverage in the country. There customer support is limited (email support), small company, they don't sell phones and do proper contracts. Therefore they don't spend 'much', and therefore we don't.

I think phones though are probably cheaper over there, the phone itself, not necessarily the tarrif.

  6. I went and bought the 16GB white on PAYG £500/$800, getting my number transferred to a new mobile provider today.

£10/$16 for 250 minutes, truly unlimited texts and truly unlimited internet (no tethering).

Had a Samsung Galaxy S, while it was ok Ive always wanted an iPhone. The OS is so much more fluent, prefer it. Only possible problem so far is the battery life, though only had it for a few days so it needs to get into the swing of things. Though last full charge I got 7 hours of usage and it was 1 day and a few hours since I took it off charge.

Now waiting on my cases to arrive.
