Hopefully, you have a group of professionals who are working with you and offering support. Talk to them and make sure you keep talking and asking for the support that you need.

That's really a shame. It seems that this person has found a way to complete "the story" -- he probably believes that you didn't accept his religion (though it doesn't sound like you were dismissive about it) because you are gay. And he may also believe the fact that you're gay prevents him from being your friend because he's Catholic. Of course, this isn't the complete story or even the accurate one, but it prevents him from having to challenge his way of thinking. It's unfortunate, but I'm glad that you don't regret telling him.
